Cateye Speed Cadence Sensor Review

Picked this up to pair with my Cateye Stealth 50 gps computer. I like it. Pairing was very quick and easy. Not cheap, but otherwise a quality Speed/Cadence ANT+ sensor option.

Initially had some difficulty trying to mount sensor on my bicycle the way I wanted - with the speed sensor folded in the downward position between the chain stay and rear wheel - just as the product photo shows. I figure mounting it in this way will keep it out of harms way, and less vulnerable to damage while storing, parking bike etc. Looks cooler too, than having speed sensor in upright position like some sort of antennae.

At first I couldn't get the unit mounted in this position with my road bike, without having Cadence sensor too far from crank to pickup magnet; or having the speed sensor running dangerously close to the spokes. I remedied this with a simple hack, by using a neodymium "Super" magnet (12mm x 3mm size disc available on Amazon, and most craft or hardware stores) in place of the provided crank magnet. I simply stuck the magnet to the end of my Pedal spindle on back of crank arm, kinda sits countersunk in crank arm depression, and then used a small piece of duct tape for added security to help keep magnet in place so it doesn't pop out if I hit a a rough bit of pavement or anything. Not only does this look nicer than using a zip tie around my brand new Shimano cranks, having the magnet at the furthest position down on crank arm allowed the sensor unit to be mounted further back on chain stay affording plenty of clearance, and adjustability for proper pickup with both sensors. The extra strong Neodymium magnet probably allows for a little extra pickup "range" than the provided magnet, giving you a little fudge room with Cadence sensor positioning. Of course you need pedal axles that magnets stick to - I can confirm that SpeedPlay stainless Zeroes work.

Give it a try! It'd be nice if future iterations included extra zip ties, and an alternate magnet/tape as described above.

Other than that, the sensor does what it should, no problems or drop outs picking up Cadence or Speed. There are a couple seconds of delay with the speed sensor stopping when you stop the bike, but I'm not sure if that's the computer or sensors fault, and it doesn't bother me. Will probably pickup the Cateye ANT+ Heartrate Monitor strap sometime in the near future as it would be nice to add that function/data to my setup.

This item was the cheapest of what I was looking for - and that is what it is worth. The build quality is not so good - the bars are not quite straight, the welds not exactly smooth and as others noted, it wobbles in the receiver hitch. One of the pieces did not line up with the holes, requiring a quick fix with a drill. For the once in a blue moon I will need it, I can live with it. If I planned to use it regularly, this item would have been returned. It is of low quality and I would not trust it with the amount of weight it says it can handle.

Condor Fuel Hydration Pack - Od Review

A couple notes on this pack that might help someone out.

I replaced the stock bladder with a Source 3L bladder. Source Outdoors WXP SQC QMT Storm Valve-IRR Cover (Coyote, 3-Litres ) It fits fine and is much more durable. There are a two small Velcro tabs at the top on each side inside the bladder carrier. They are just long enough to reach the hole in the center of the Source bladder to secure it, use both to keep it from shifting to the side. The metal loop on the sides of each strap is not large enough for the source hose to feed through to secure it, I used one of the elastic loops instead. These metal rings can be rotated so the flat side is out and they are large enough for the clip on most speaker/mics.

The Hydration hose exits the bladder section via a hole at the top of each strap. The hole only goes into the bladder carrier, not the main part of the pack. I wanted to keep a small radio in the main compartment and run the speaker/mic out the other strap to keep the radio better protected from the elements. This won't work.

All the zippers worked well and did not bind anywhere.

The molle points on the front seem to be spaced correctly, at least all my other Condor, 5.11, and Maxpedition pouches lined up. There are no molle points on the bottom to tie a tarp to. There's plenty of room on the side pockets for molle as well but they didn't put it there either.

There is a small pouch on the inside back of the main compartment that comes up about half way.

The straps are just long enough for me, but it's close. I'm 5'11 and 205 and wear 40x30 pants. There is enough strap for the chest strap to close and have enough slack to be useful. I'd like the shoulder straps a couple inches longer for use with a heavier Carhartt coat in the winter. The waist strap does interfere with IBW carry. Yeah, I know it's not the products fault I need to loose weight, just more of a comment for those that are my size. Strap length was going to be the deciding factor if I kept this or not. I've bought a couple other bags in the past that had straps that were too short and couldn't be changed out.

I'll be ordering an AR500 Armor Carbon Nanotube Soft Armor IIIA for backpacks. It measures 11x14 and should fit the back of the main compartment. It may have to wrap around the inside a small amount, not sure yet. I'll post updates after it arrives as to if this pack holds it well.

The main purpose of this pack for me is part of a get home kit. It holds essentials for a 30-50 mile hike back and a few tools. Combined with the Condor EDC bag Condor Edc Bag I good way to carry a variety of things without getting too heavy.

I wear a size 8.5 or 9 in most shoes. I took the advice of others and ordered 1 size up. Since I have wide feet I ordered a 10. It fits perfectly...just slightly long, but not a problem. Wore them to my hour long Zumba class and I was able to turn and twist without any problems. The leather is very soft and I felt no hot spots in the shoe.

I used to dance in my Vibrim 5 finger shoes, which worked fine until the gym I go to changed their flooring (it's not a slick as it used to be). So my Vibrims stuck too much to the floor and my calves and knees ached after class.

What drew me to this shoe were the reviews that stated that there is little to no support in this shoe. It is almost as if I am dancing barefoot, which is why I liked the Vibrim shoes. So, if you don't need the arch support and like to dance barefoot, you may really like this shoe! If you need the support of an athletic shoe, this is not the shoe for you.
