RCBS Lock-Out Die Review

I'm giving this item 3 stars because of the following:

* This item does what it should -- it'll stop you from completing the downstroke on any progressive when setup properly.
* The warranty replacement of plastic tips through RCBS
* The overall quality of the construction is excellent

However, it will not get 4 or 5 stars from me due to:

* It only works for pistol calibers, and really only 9mm and larger (it is just not sensitive enough for small grain reloaders -- 25 auto/32 auto/380)
* It causes a lot of problems, when there is only 1 problem that needs to be dealt with

While the physical feedback is obvious and excellent, in a progressive press when this thing performs its "Lock Out" you now have a much bigger problem than 1 cartridges powder charge. You have 4 - 8 stations that are about to index and did not receive a full downstroke. Some presses this is easier than others to deal with. For example, on the Hornady Lock-n-Load AP, you can get a 2x2 piece of wood and put it below the subplate and stop indexing, but on a Dillon 650 or 1050, it is nearly impossible to fix once it is locked out. I'd recommend getting either a visual powder check (RCBS, Hornady, etc) or an audio/visual powder check (Dillon) over this die.

This is a very good backing. I used it bone fishing in the Bahamas. It held up well, and didn't bind on itself the way gel-spun will bind. It is very thin, which leaves more room for bulkier lines.

I have to admit, however, that it is only 100 yards. I have not caught any real large bones with this backing, so I have'nt had the pleasure of reaching the end of my spool.

Balance Beam Review

With a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old, both of whom could use a wee bit of improvement with their overall coordination, I decided to order this balance beam as a Christmas gift. My wife was skeptical. She didn't think it would be any fun and thought that the kids would soon lose interest. Boy was she wrong.

It's been a month and a half since it arrived and every single day since we've got it, the kids have played with it. Because the item is a bit long, my wife will often put it away to clear some space, but inevitably within hours the kiddies request that we set it back up.

While not exactly educational, from a results perspective, our kid's overall balance has definitely improved in the short time that we've had it. From a build quality perspective, it's very well made and quite solid. It can be set in the wide or narrow position, though in our case we've only used the wide. It did hold me at 195lbs, though I will admit I was a bit apprehensive and holding my breath. Optimally it's for children and people under 100 lbs or maybe even 150 lbs.

Overall we're extremely satisfied with this purchase!!
