The exterior materials are waterproof, windproof and breathable and the Naturaloft Insulation is lightweight and not bulky so you'll remain very comfortable all day. The Hydrowick Microdenier lines the interior to help absorb moisture in the glove and the Aquabloc seam-sealed insert makes your gloves ultra breathable, waterproof and windproof so the sweat and moisture inside can be evaporated towards the exterior quickly. First of all I just wanted to say this is a great seller. Gloves arrived 2 days later! But lets get to brass tax:1. I live in Chicago. It gets FRIGID here. trust me on this, I will not buy gloves that are useless below 20 degrees (-6 C).
Now lets go over construction:
These gloves won't be good for work. If you work construction or something, look elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, these are not cheaply made, either. Here's why:
The gloves have a lot of extra padding at the fingertips. This is kind of a deal breaker, but seriously for the warmth the gloves provide, it's worthwhile. Just don't expect to text type with these on. BUT: You could take the gloves off and your hands will be so warm that you will have at least 10 seconds before your fingers lose their dexterity from the cold.
Now, since I've taken college-level chemistry classes I will explain something: the label on the gloves says something like this "The water molecules can't get through our outermost shell material, because on a microscopic level, the material's atoms are too close together for water to get through them (like pebbles on a screen). BUT, water vapor atoms CAN get through because the atoms of the material are just far enough apart to let vapor atoms through it" This is physically impossible. Water is water is water. Water molecules, DO NOT CHANGE SIZE, no matter what temperature they are at. This is why I have them 4 stars instead of 5. The shell is waterproof because I tested it under the sink, but don't expect water to be able to breathe out of the gloves like the manufacturer says. You would not want this anyway, read my note about down for more info.
The liner is really soft, and isn't removable. but then again the glove is washable, but oh well. be happy these aren't the leather down gloves the other guy is selling for double.
QUICK NOTE about down material PLEASE READ: down takes a minute or 2 to warm up. its cool to the touch when you first put the gloves on and stays that way for 20 seconds or so. Down is the best insulator. Better than wool, better than polyester. ITS ONLY FLAW is that it is completely useless if it gets wet. Do not wear them right out of the washing machine. Another thing: down is not a good conductor of heat. It doesn't get hot, so if your gloves are too big, the air inside the glove will escape and the cold air will get in. This will make the gloves useless. keep that in mind (trust me, my winter coat and comforter are Siberian goose down (I love down)
Honestly, these are the warmest gloves you can get for the price. I did my homework.
