Mustang Survival PFD Horsepower Neoprene Vest (X-Large) Review

I bought this vest as I ride jetski and wanted freedom of movement, and to NOT die.

SIZING:
I originally bought a size-small based on the sizing chart, but had to return it as it was way too tight. I know people say you want these neoprene vests tight, and you do (a little), but trust me, you don't want to look like homer simpson or shrek with your belly-button sticking out the bottom. So consider ordering about a size up from your measurements. Be aware that the straps on the front will allow you to tighten a slightly loose vest, but will not allow you to make it bigger than it's minimum size (so rather go slightly too big than too small). Also be aware that this is not a vest you'll share amongst the whole family. It's size is very specific, and it will only fit someone of similar size to you.

AESTHETICS:
The vest looks good. Not absurdly good that you look like a rich-boy trying to show off your money. Rather minimalist, understated good... better than everyone elses jacket, but without trying too hard. It does look and feel a bit like a bullet-proof vest when you're wearing it.

PERFORMANCE:
While it may not keep your face up if you were knocked unconscious, it floats well for it's size and thickness. If visiblity while on the water is an issue for you, you might consider either a different vest or attach some dayglow tape or something, because it's almost solid black design probably won't help a search-team find you. As this is a neoprene vest, it warms up nicely and helps keep you warm. Many complain about this fact (I guess if you're wearing the jacket while sitting for hours on a boat you would get hot), but I get cold easily and appreciate the extra insulation over-and-above my wetsuit. I suppose all things equal, the neoprene is great if you're in the water, swimming, skiing, jetskiiing, and getting wet. Maybe a bit hot if you sitting on shore or in a boat but wearing it 'just in case' you're thrown overboard.

CONCLUSION:
Vest works as intented, looks good, and although it says it's made in China, apparently this company produces PFD's for NASA and the navy (shame on you America for outsourcing everything to China), so you would think (or like to believe) the quality is there. So far, it is definitely the best vest I've ever owned.
