Don't be an idiot. If your shoulders are not a lucky set immune to injury, then you should wear shoulder pads. I like this foam sheet style better than the bubbles or honeycomb, as I believe it better insulates the clavicle from direct impact, helping spread it over the surrounding shoulder muscle. After repeat AC ligament injuries, I could not play without a padded top.

Cons: Tight around the front of the neck, but I tug on it a bit to loosen it up some.

Canterbury also makes a great foam padded top, but costs a lot more for almost the same benefit. But the Canterbury is thicker, for if you really need the absolute most protection for a raised clavicle.
