Needed a mount for my M600C scout light that put it at the 11 o' clock and moves the light forward off the rail so I have more reality for my hands and could activate the light with my thumb. I did some looking around and found a few options:LaRue, who makes some terrific American made stuff, wanted $100 and the light would still be taking up space on the rail. Although the QD levers they make are nice to have (got one for my aimpoint and another for my flip to side mount) $100 was WAY more than I wanted to spent on a mount.
Gear Sector offset was another offset I found with some good reviews. Again, it offset the light but it still was taking up rail space by not moving the light forward as. It sold for generally $60 at most places and I thought that was a littl expensive for what it was.
IWC THORNTAIL was the last one I came across here on amazon. It offsets the scout light and moved it forward so I could put the mount at the ens of the rail system leaving the light forward and in a perfect place for my thumb to activate it. The price was right (under $50 delivered) and it is MADE IN AMERICA! SO I ordered it. The shipping was fast and received it a few days later. I removed the old mount (NOTE: YOU WILL NEED A T7 STAR KEY TO REMOVE THE MOUNTING SYSTEM SCREWS)and began mounting the thorntail. It was a little suborn at first but it came together after a few minutes. My only gripe is that you will need your own stash of Locktite for the threads since this did not come with any (LaRue always ships their products that mount with a small bottle so I may be a little spoiled). I would never mount something like this on a weapon without it or you are just asking for it to rattle itself off after some shooting. For the price though, I could excuse this and since I always have some handy it wasn't a problem for me. Also as an owner of a Danial Defense mid-length Omega rail the screws on the rail used to keep it together interfered with me mounting the offset all the way forward, so I had to mount it a few slots back. Again, this is not something I fault the thorntail with just making readers aware since the Omega rail is VERY common on Ar's. Despite the fact I had to mount the offset back, it still put the scout light plenty forward and I could easily turn the light on and off with my thumb. The mounting plate on the thorntail is very flat and when griping the rail it doesn't interfere or make things akward or uncomfortable. When mounted properly the mount was rock SOLID and I feel that serious damage would have to be done to snap this thing off. I would highly recommend this mount if your looking for a solid mount that offset a scout light and move it off the rail and doesn't clutter up where you want to grip the rail. So to conclude:
Pros:
Offsets light AND moves it forward off the rail
Great price
Made in USA
Rock solid
low profile mount that doesn't interfere or clutter up the rail
Cons:
No locktite provided for threads
need your own star key to remove the stock mount
