The Code 4 Clip Point from Cold Steel. An amalgamation of a Gentleman's style with tactical features, the Code 4 bridges the gap between Form and Function in a way few other production blades have. While retaining the aggressive shape and grinds of their Recon series the Code 4 provides a sleeker, slimmer, more visually attractive package. The satin finished clip point blade is made of AUS-8 stainless and measures a reasonable 3.5" in length, that sort of butter zone length between EDC and tactical duty. The unsharpened swedge on the otherwise thick spine leads down to a very strong tip which falls belly first into the hollow ground cutting edge that came hair splitting sharp from the box. It held this edge in every chore with the exception of the cardboard test, where it began to show signs of slowing about 3/4 of the way through. Nonetheless it finished the job and only took a few passes on the strop to bring back to shaving sharp. Lock up on the Code 4 is via Cold Steels uber-strong Tri-ad lock and it holds true to that reliability and strength in every way. Deployment is very fast via Thumb Studs and Phosphor Bronze washers. The 5" long handle is 6000 series aluminum scales that have been anodized a Gun Metal or Titanium Grey. Despite that it's less than 3/8" thick and has no texturing, it's still very comfortable and secure thanks to the nicely done ergonomic features such as the slight dual finger choils and palm fitting back curve. It is a little slick if it is wet but still felt solid thanks to those choils, however any other hold than main/reverse felt very low traction and unsecure when the knife was wet. Overall the blade weighs in at 4.25oz on my scale and that's very reasonable for its size in my opinion. The Code 4 came with 2 pocket clips, one for right and one for left tip up carry and that's pretty standard for Cold Steel products. It definitely won't eat your pocket rims when carried and at a very pocketbook friendly $55 or so, the Code 4 is a knife that can be relied upon defensively and especially in an EDC role for a good long while and still have enough flash to show off to your friends down the road. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Cold Stl Code-4 3.5" Clip Point" are high quality item.
