Ok, first off let me start by saying SOG makes great knives, and has impeccable customer service! However, as with many other consumer products, purchasing the first year or "first run" a product comes out, is not always a wise choice. Case and point, Apples' iPhone. At any rate, many times the first try at production falls short of perfection and the product(s) needs more tweaking in order to get them just right. Many knife manufactures are trying to capture more market share and increase profits buy selling "spring assisted" knives. This is also due to the fact that many states still outlaw automatic knifes, and "spring assisted" knifes are a great alternative. Well made "spring assisted" knifes open just as fast, if not faster, than automatics.

Pros: Super durable finish. Dropped from 3-4 feet onto concrete several times and not one scratch
Razor sharp right out of the package
Tolerances are tight; no blade wobble, edges are smooth, and feels solid in your hand

Cons: Too much pre-tension on the safety bar does not allow knife to open smoothly
The "step" on the closed blade side needs to be radiused better, in order for the blade to open more smoothly
Blade does not open with authority, and many times does not open all the way to lock-up
There is no need for the safety latch because there is so much pre-tension on the blade, its virtually impossible to
Inadvertently open
The opening spring rate is weak and needs to be increased
The thumb studs are in a horrible location on the blade, and with all the "drag" due to the above issues, makes opening the
knife almost impossible

Final Notes: This could be a great knife if SOG would spend some time "tweaking" it. I know they are capable of doing this based on
how there automatic knifes perform. Lets me say that I have knifes made in Taiwan or China that open more smoothly,
have better lock-up, and more opening authority than this knife. If I was you, I'd wait until they correct these issues
before purchasing this model. However, if you're mechanically inclined like me, you can take it out to your garage, take
it apart, and fix/modify the issues yourself as I did. I Hope after reading my review you can make a well-informed
decision on whether or not to purchase this item.
