I just bought my 3rd and 4th pair of these shorts because they are SO comfortable. I especially like the leg band - instead of the usual bare elastic to grip the leg, these have the shorts fabric folded over and the Pearl Izumi logo screened onto the fabric in grippy silicon. Take a zoom look at the leg band in the picture, it's the same inside the shorts around the leg band. I thought they would slip but I have ridden over 100 mile rides and they stay in place really nicely, and the bonus is they don't give the "sausage" leg look!
The chamois is incredibly comfortable - I hardly notice it - it doesn't bunch up or chafe at all. I rode the Seattle-to-Portland ride (2 x 100 mile days) with these and they are just super! I have some other shorts I bought at Performance for 25 bucks (on sale I think) and the difference in chamois comfort is like night and day - the Pearl Izumi wins hands down.
I wear a size 10 or 12 pants and the medium size of this short fits me nicely, with room to spare. I have fairly long legs, and these are longer shorts, the inseam is 8", but for me it is just fine, I'm biking, not tanning!
I was on a ride with a group a few weeks ago and one person was complaining that their backside was getting sore in spite of having bought really nice bike shorts. Padded shorts will help a little, but the only way to not have sore parts is to put the time in the saddle, get a good bike fit at a bike shop where someone is trained to fit bikes, and a saddle that fits your anatomy.
