Product Description
Surfix solid UV Inhibited polymer glides allows your fiberglass or aluminum Boat, Jet Ski or pontoon boat to load and unload the trailer with ease; even in shallow water. Hold on to your bowline! Your effort to load and unload will change in just 10 minutes with a cordless drill. Deep flat pockets keep wide pan head stainless screws (supplied) away from the hull. Glides can be mounted directly on the smooth carpet or on the pressure treated wood and they provide a bearer to protect toon from corrosive effects of the treated bunks.Trailer Bunk Glides (1.5" x 48") Review
My boat is a 24' Parker center console deep vee which weighs about 4500 lbs. My trailer is a traditional bunk style with 10 foot long 3 1/2" wide bunks. The bunks were due for a new carpeting, so I took a chance on these bunk glides instead. My wife and I are getting older, and driving the boat up on the trailer was becoming an adventure. I was hoping the glides would make the operation safer, but I was concerned the weight of my boat would compress them after a couple of launches.I ordered four 54"glides for my boat trailer (two on each side) and was very satisfied with the purchase.
1. The shipping was fast and reliable
2. The stainless screws were more than adequate in length (unlike what I had heard about other guides)
3. Installation was a breeze with a cordless screw driver. I put them on top of the original carpet.
4. The glide thickness is adequate and the material has shown no signs of stress from the load in two launchings.
5. Best of all, the glides made loading the boat on the trailer much easier. The boat goes up on the trailer with less motor, but the big improvement is in maneuverability of the boat. When the boat is powered onto the bunks, there are two types of friction to overcome: static and dynamic. Static friction holds the boat in place until the motor overcomes the grip and then converts to the weaker dynamic friction which lets the boat go with a sudden burst of speed. This makes the boat lurch, which makes it difficult to steer onto the bunks in a controlled manner. With these glides, the two forces of friction must be about the same, so there seems to be less of a tendency to break lose and lurch. Therefore, I am able to ease the boat forward with more control making my wife standing at the wench a much happier mate.
6. If I notice wear, I will update this review.
