I'm more interested in being able to do long rides without a sore neck and numb hands than in saving a few grams or getting to my destination a few minutes faster. I've tried several different styles of bar, including moustache, trekking ("butterfly") and randonneur, in search of the most comfortable setup. All have their pros and cons, but the Nitto Noodle is my favorite so far.

The magic is in the gory geometric details: The Noodle's drops are flared slightly (wider at bottom of bends than top) for a more ergonomic grip: like a randonneur bar, but less pronounced. And like a randonneur bar there is a long flat section on top behind the bend of the drop, which makes riding on the brake hoods more comfortable. The key difference from the randonneur is that the Noodle bar slopes slightly downward from the stem to point where the bar bends forwards, whereas the randonneur bar has slight humps at those bends that place the flats behind the brake levers slightly higher than the stem. This makes the Noodle comfortable to grip near the stem, unlike the randonneur. Thank you to the folks at Rivendell Cycles for pointing this out.
